Ahahhah!
I'll check it out for sure! Though it's possible that I'm actually the wrong audience for it, because I don't use too many emoticons. I think it's a hazard of being a writer; when you type 70 words a minute and your job is to communicate clearly using words and only words, you wind up not using emoticons very much. Though, as I think Jesse Shieldower argued nicely in that piece about the evolution of English I blogged a few weeks ago, emoticons are a totally valid evolution of language.

Im a fully trained, very dangerous touch typist last measured at 92wpm... but I still find use for emoticons. Can make or break a statement so that it doesnt look like you are being belligerent or that you are ;)

Hmmmm, good point about touch typists still using emoticons. For what it's worth, I actually do think they're one of the most interesting evolutions in English grammar (or actually any grammar, I guess -- do emoticons exist for other languages? I'm sure they do.) They're a gorgeous example of the sort of information-compression techniques you get in low-bandwidth situations -- when you want to communicate a lot with a very few keystrokes.
