So. You want to have a personal brand name. Who doesn't? But there's one problem: You haven't got $7 million kicking around so that a bunch of liberal-arts legacy assholes from Brown can get paid six figures to sit around playing Grand Theft Auto while they "develop" your brand concept. Hey, this sort of quality brand management is available only to companies with deep pockets and shallow vision.
But now you, too, can develop your own personal brand -- with one mouse click! Hie thee to the What Brand Are You? page at The Design Conspiracy, and fill in your name with a few basic atttributes. Presto: It'll give you a new corporate name, and explain the connotations.
I entered "Clive Thompson" for my name, "anarchy" as my core value, and "client satisfaction" as my "core goal".

I have always been opposed to wearing "branded" clothes, because I figure, "If Nike (or Coke, or Tommy, etc.) will pay a crapload of money to some shmuck to put their brand on the side of a building, why the #$%^ should I have to pay them to hang their brand on the front of my torso?"
As I listened to some high-schoolers on the CBC this morning giving their impressions of advertising in schools, deals with the likes of Coke and Pepsi to supply free computers in exchange for exclusive access to the student body, and the merits (or lack thereof) of buying brand-name clothing, I thought, "Why don't people just design their OWN brands, and wear those?"
Another "original" thought blown to bits.
(BTW, my brand is "sollicito" ("best practice makes perfect")

We here at Globall™ are commited to innovatively bringing you conspiracies that drive quality into a tight space.
a-hem.
Back when I first sort of became "media conscious" (i.e. in or about first year university), I thought it would be cool to start a clothing company called "The Generic Clothing Company" -- a company dedicated to just "basics" (jeans, t-shirts, casual shirts, casual shoes, etc.) But the selling point would be that we offered two streams of product: un-branded goods at price X, and branded goods at price X minus some percentage. That percentage would be deducted from the company's marketing budget. I figgered - the logo's the advertising, and the people who choose to wear the branded items are our billboards, so it should come out of marketing's budget, and the buyer gets a price break. People choosing the unbranded goods aren't doing anything explicit to help me market my goods, so they pay full price.
It's a bit simplified, I agree, but, hey!, we were a lot simpler in those days...:)

BTW, anyone interested in starting the "Generic Clothing Company," or a similarly-structured business model, the idea's yours for the price of some stock. :)

Heh. You may recall the posting I made a few months back about Clive Bags, the incredibly hip skatepunk company that makes bags for snowboarding, skateboarding, and just generally being cool. I still plan to buy, like, one of every single item they make.
