Bump. Bump. Bump. Baaaaaa-bump. Bump. Bump. Baaaa .....

This rocks beyond description. An international gang of artists is going around the world's major cities and surreptitiously installing little versions of the Space Invaders aliens -- rendered as ceramic-tile art! That one above is in Notre Dame, but there might be ones near you: Check their web site for pictures of the installations in different cities to find out. I personally am going to try and visit all the ones in New York.

The photos are quite hilarious -- the aliens manage to look both pop-culture cheerful, and occasionally kind of doubtful, as if they're not really sure how they hell they wound up invading such a weird planet.

(Thanks to Kevan for this one!)

The cities of the world are being overrun by aliens! ... Pixelated video game aliens rendered in ceramic tile. I love this kinda geek-chic street-art stuff. And this particular project is sort've shockingly well-tracked and -photographed. (The picture... [Read More]

Hmmm, wonder if they'd tile my bathroom?

I'd like to see someone actually install "All your base..." signs. But this is indeed very cool.

Ahahah! I like the idea of a bathroom done this way.

the artist used to sell these as limited edition art, about $1000 each. They'd come in pairs; you get one to put up where you like, and he'd put the other one up somewhere in the world, then send you the location and a picture.

Lately, though, I've seen them for sale one alien=$30 or so. How big is your bathroom?

As a long-time resident but first-time car owner in NYC, when I first saw the title of this entry ("Bump. Bump. Bump. Baaaaaa..."), I thought it was going to be a piece about driving in the five boroughs. Maybe the DOT could commission these artists to create warning signs for impending potholes. I wonder how the the artists would have rendered the descending cadence of total "Space Invaders" demise at the recently repaired chasm at 71st Street on the southbound FDR.

Heh ... god, yes, I just drove a rental car through Manhattan and holy *moses* are the streets bad!

Never argue with idiots. They will bring you down to their level, then overwhelm you with their experience.
