Self-counting coin jar!

Check it out: A jar lid that keeps a running tally of the coins you shove in by recognizing the shape -- and thus the denomination -- of each one. This is one of those "why the hell didn't I have that idea" ideas; so elegant and simple that it should have existed long ago.

(Thanks to Boing Boing for this one!)

Hmmm....I think it takes away the real fun of the money jar....the unknown tally. Money jars wouldn't be as fun and alluring if you knew exactly how much you had in them. The mystique of untold fortunes would be lost on my kids as they would quickly figure out how much you had in the jar and knowing this, be able to craft a deadly accurate Christmas wish list factoring in taxes and shipping.

If I know you, I'm certian this is probably something you would have mastered before your 8th birthday Clive.

Whoa Sorry...Benjamin distracted me by driving a matchbox car up my arm and sholder and smashing it into my ear....

Heh ... no problem. Sometimes I erase duplicate messages but this time I kinda like leaving them there: It's like an echo chamber!

Yes, I agree, it takes the fun out of counting change, a bit. Though just yesterday I was counting quarters for the laundry and thinking, damn, this is a *drag*.
